In the ancient world, maps were not merely tools for navigation; they were gateways to understanding the Earth's vast expanse and its intricate details. From the Babylonian clay tablets to the Renaissance masterpieces of Mercator and Ortelius, cartography has always been an art form intertwined with science. And at the heart of cartographic endeavors lies the globe, a timeless symbol of our planet's unity and diversity. As technology advanced, so did the craftsmanship behind globe-making, evolving from handcrafted works of art to precision-engineered marvels. Today, we stand at the intersection of tradition and innovation as TerraLab joins forces with Large Globes, a globe manufacturer, to craft the next generation of these magnificent spheres. Together, we blend centuries-old techniques with cutting-edge technology to create basemaps that adorn globes ranging from 80 cm to over a meter in diameter. This collaboration not only honors the rich legacy of cartography but also propels it into a new era of exploration and discovery.
Large Globes is operated by Remus Gall, an artist and biologist from Romania. Together with his sister, they have been hand crafting their globes for worldwide distribution for 7 years. While the collaboration with TerraLab is new, their catalogue already offers an array of beautiful pieces.
Their signature piece is the Blue Planet, which combines both traditional and modern elements of cartography into a soft palette.
Their globe range is diverse, featuring an array of elegant designs suitable for work places, private collections and public spaces.
TerraLab will be collaborating with Large Globes to diversify their globe offerings and help bring these beautiful giants to work places, private collections and public spaces all over the world.
