Project example: Worker management system

Objective:

Create a workforce management application for a team that is geographically dispersed.

How:

TerraLab reviewed the organisations practices and provided a range of solutions. The pros and cons of each option were discussed at length before a final option was chosen. TerraLab set up, tested, implemented and reviewed the deployment of the solution and provided ongoing support to ensure the organisation got the most out of their investment.

Result:

The organisation was able to create spatially located ‘tasks’ for their workers through a map in their browser. Not only did the task show the worker the location on their mobile phone, but it also included a set of instructions, quote number and list of tools required to complete the job. The workers navigated to the site using their mobile devices before signing on to the job. Once signed on, the desktop map at the office highlighted that the job was ‘in progress’. Once completed, the worker marked the job as completed which was also signalled to the office. The worker took photos and notes on the job which were all uploaded to the office map for later review. Worker location tracking was also optional but for this engagement was turned off. The office staff had a TV on their wall which displayed a map of all their current and pending tasks as well as metrics on their progress towards their weekly quota.

Project Example: Data management for cultural heritage client

Objective:

Create a robust mobile mapping system for our client; an end-to-end cultural heritage consultant.

How:

Leveraging cloud GIS and web mapping, we set up multiple hosted layers to store all of our client’s requisite data. In addition we created field tools that streamline their field collection process. For CHMP registration, we also created a host of layout/layer templates so that we can quickly produce maps throughout the CHMP process.

Result:

Our client has benefitted from an organized central repository of data improving efficiency and minimising mistakes. By organising data and layouts we are quickly able to produce maps from the mobile workers, instantly. Data integrity has improved by restricting field data to one type rather than managing data across multiple platforms such as mud maps and other third-party software.
